World Peace Day, Bullets 4 Peace, and Troy Davis
Last night I DJ’d a charity event for the Bullets 4 Peace organization which is a jewelry line made of recycled bullet casings taken from reload centers, streets, and war zones. The organization seeks to promote peace over violence. Finally, an entity that gets it.
Lots of celebs were in the house at the event. Actor Chris Noth and LA Laker Matt Barnes hosted the night’s festivities and celebrities ranging from Quintin Aaron (star of the movie “Blindside”) to comedian Tommy Davidson and Michael Jackson’s last music director Michael Bearden were in attendance while I was on the 1′s and 2′s spinning hip hop, Pop, and R&B.
Ironically, just hours before this event that stood for peace began (and on World Peace Day no less) death row inmate Troy Davis was executed in Georgia despite last minute pleas to save his life. What’s also troubling is that more than 41% of the inmates across the country on death row are black. I truly believe no man has the right to take another’s life. The people responsible for this will live forever in turmoil and peace will never come for them until they have repented.
