Heavy — My Brother
My good friend Dwight “Heavy D” Myers, was an incredibly special person. Tears are springing out of my eyes as I type this, but I somehow feel if I’m able to get it out I can have a peaceful and loving goodbye.
It’s interesting how from the outside no one can truly know the depths of a friendship that exists between two people. A bond that supersedes superficiality and allows the other to just be themselves.
Heavy and I would talk for hours and when we were done I’d feel like I had been pumped with life and confidence. He was always so supportive and loving, like a big brother looking out for his sis. We’d laugh about silly things, and then 30 minutes later we’d get serious and philosophical.
I think what I’ve learned most within the last year, coupled with the loss of my dear dear friend, is saying, “I love you” is never enough. Love is an ACTION word. It’s something you show — it’s being there, sharing and making time to cultivate relationships.
What I loved and respected most about Hev was he was himself at all times…. A big teddy bear who wore his heart on his sleeve, making him truly the Overweight LOVER.
Forever in my heart he will be…

i was just playing Heavy D for my 14 year old son. I wa sexplaing to him the difference in today’s hip hop and yesterday’s hip hop. We listened and he understood why I have Heavy D on my I-phone. When I think about all the good Heavy has done for hip hop and the community as a whole. I’m grateful I had a chance to see him grow in life and in his journey as a great artist, father, friend, brother. Hip hop is different for me because with out it I would not be me. Thats what hip hop has done for so many and as we say see ya later to Heavy D we look forward to aspiring the youth and the world in the era we live in today.
Heavy D you are what dreams are made of and all yours came true. Thanks for all the music, fun and laughter you brought to my life.
