On Friday night, I had the honor of DJ’ing the closing celebration for the exhibition “Now Dig This! Art and Black Los Angeles 1960-1980″ at the Hammer Museum here in Los Angeles. The exhibit itself celebrated the contributions African-American artists made to Los Angeles-based art between 1960 and 1980. As the crowd took in the amazing exhibit, I was on the 1′s and 2′s spinning hits from the 80s & 90s. After viewing the amazing collection of art, people funneled into the dance area and partied an hour past the regularly scheduled closing time.
I got a chance to check out the exhibit’s opening night a few months ago and the place was packed. The exhibit is hands down one of the most in depth as it relates to art created by those of color from a particular area.
For those of you who are here in Los Angeles, I’ll be spinning again this summer so I will keep you informed.
